In September, I’m heading off to Romania with Rachel Hemphill to begin a year-long project in three Roma gypsy villages and an orphanage. We will be living in the Exodus centre in Sutor, Transylvania. The project entails organising after school programmes, teaching from the Bible and offering the kids a safe environment to have fun and just be children.
Food will also be an important part of the project as we'll provide meals, clothes and educational resources for the children to ease the financial burden for parents.
We would love to see the cycle of poverty end, so our goal is to encourage parents to let their children go to school instead of sending them to work in the fields. In doing so, potentially giving them more opportunities and a chance to escape poverty.
Some of our time will also be spent visiting the elderly, as well as gifting food parcels for struggling families and helping out at a nearby orphanage.
